Magnet Program
The Lamar School of Business Administration is a unique college-preparatory program with courses designed or students with an interest in all areas of business.

Students enroll in one business course each year.
- Ninth and tenth grade courses are by assignment
- upper level students have a variety of courses from which to choose.
All Lamar students are a part of International Baccalaureate Programme. With the IB diploma, students are guaranteed at least 24 college credit hours at all state schools in Texas, and a similar number of hours in the states of California, Colorado, and Florida. Many universities and colleges offer additional credit hours. Lamar offers dual-credit classes for juniors and seniors through Houston Community College. Students can earn a maximum of 24 college credit hours.
Acceptance to the Business Magnet program is based on:
- grades
- test scores
- behavior
Only incoming 9th grade students are eligible.
Magnet students must attend a three-week Summer Academy during June. These students are also expected to pursue the IB Diploma which includes the IB Diploma Business Course.
Eligibility
Applicants should submit a complete Magnet application including:
- Final grade report from 7th grade
- First six-week report from 8th grade
- 7th and 8th grade standardized test reports TAKS, Stanford, Iowa, CAT, ERB, etc.
- Permanent record from Middle School
- Proof of residency (gas, light or water bill)
Application
The application must be postmarked no later than the district-wide magnet deadline of January 6, 2012. Applications received after this date will be accepted on a space-available basis. Application status information will be mailed to parents on March 23, 2012.
Mail or deliver applications to the attention of the Magnet office. No faxed applications will be accepted. Parents must notify the Magnet school of choice by April 9, 2012 (postmarked date).
