Library
The Lamar High School Library has the longest hours of operation of any school in HISD. The school offers unique library services to its 3300 students, and 200 member faculty. An extensive eBook service is available giving patrons access to the latest fiction titles in electronic format. The most popular books are now available for reading on a variety of electronic book reading devices, mobile devices, and personal computers. Students can check out laptops for use in the library and access the secure wireless network to research topics and complete assignments. Printing is provided free for students who are printing school related assignments. Laser color printing is also available but at 25¢ per page.
The College Corner is our college counseling office that provides guidance, information, and assistance to students interested in going to college or university. The Community and Service office will be opening up in the library in the fall of 2011. It's designed to assist students in completing their required tasks for the IB program's CAS component. The library also offers the Technology Integration Station, a workroom designed exclusively for teachers, which is staffed by a rotation of teachers who are available to assist new and veteran educators on how to use classroom technology, online grading tools, Moodle, and other professional resources that require technology. The library even features a new Coffee Bar, which operates before and after school, offering hot coffee, drinks, and healthy snacks that students can purchase from our culinary arts students who man that bar. The library has something to offer to everyone.
