China Trip

Lamar High School China Trip - 2012  June 5 - June 26

Students from Lamar High School will have the opportunity to visit China this year. Typically in June, students and chaperones travel around China, visiting the major sites of Xian, the Great Wall, and Beijing. The details of China Trip 2012 are still being worked out and updates will be made to this site sharing the new and exciting changes being planned for a once in a lifetime experience.

 Here is a list of frequently asked questions regarding the trip:

1.       Can non-Lamar students go? No.  Only if they are slated to come to Lamar as freshmen.

2.      How many chaperones are going?  Usually 2

3.      Do you need volunteers? NO

4.      Can parents come too? NO

5.       Do you need to know Chinese?  Not necessarily.

6.      Is there a rule book that students have to read? There is a handout that is a “how to” of travel in China.

7.       Can kids come home early if they don’t like it? No,  but if they misbehave they might be sent home.

8.      Do kids receive academic credit for this?  They can receive Social Studies credit.  See Dr. Guo for these details.  When they return from China they have to give a power point presentation and oral presentation about a subject that is previously approved by Dr. Guo.  They are eligible to receive Social Studies credit (one course) for this effort.

9.      Do you have to be in good academic standing to go?  Students should be passing all subjects. 

10.   When do they have to pay?  A payment system is still being set up, but the 1st payment is due in December and the last in May. Payment should be made to Mr. Brad Weber in the school's Business Office, located in the main office, second floor, north building.

11.    How much will they have to pay?  2012 prices have not been determined yet, but current estimates are $2,950 per person.

12.   Who do they pay? Cash, check, credit card?  Any of them.

13.   Is there an application? Where can they get an application?  See, Mrs. Gaido or Ms. Sun.

14.   What is the deadline to apply?  To get the most time to make regular payments, they need to apply by December.

15.    What have students from past years said about this program?   There will be informational meetings about the trip and past participants will share their experience with perspective students. The trip is often referred to as “Amazing”.
